2024-05-23all: change from sort functions to slices functions where feasibleIan Lance Taylor
Doing this because the slices functions are slightly faster and slightly easier to use. It also removes one dependency layer. This CL does not change packages that are used during bootstrap, as the bootstrap compiler does not have the required slices functions. It does not change the go/scanner package because the ErrorList Len, Swap, and Less methods are part of the Go 1 API. 2023-12-05math/rand, math/rand/v2: use ChaCha8 for global randRuss Cox
Move ChaCha8 code into internal/chacha8rand and use it to implement runtime.rand, which is used for the unseeded global source for both math/rand and math/rand/v2. This also affects the calculation of the start point for iteration over very very large maps (when the 32-bit fastrand is not big enough). The benefit is that misuse of the global random number generators in math/rand and math/rand/v2 in contexts where non-predictable randomness is important for security reasons is no longer a security problem, removing a common mistake among programmers who are unaware of the different kinds of randomness. The cost is an extra 304 bytes per thread stored in the m struct plus 2-3ns more per random uint64 due to the more sophisticated algorithm. Using PCG looks like it would cost about the same, although I haven't benchmarked that. Before this, the math/rand and math/rand/v2 global generator was wyrand (https://github.com/wangyi-fudan/wyhash). For math/rand, using wyrand instead of the Mitchell/Reeds/Thompson ALFG was justifiable, since the latter was not any better. But for math/rand/v2, the global generator really should be at least as good as one of the well-studied, specific algorithms provided directly by the package, and it's not. (Wyrand is still reasonable for scheduling and cache decisions.) Good randomness does have a cost: about twice wyrand. Also rationalize the various runtime rand references. goos: linux goarch: amd64 pkg: math/rand/v2 cpu: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X 16-Core Processor │ bbb48afeb7.amd64 │ 5cf807d1ea.amd64 │ │ sec/op │ sec/op vs This also updates the vendored-in versions of several packages: 'go mod vendor' selects a consistent version of each module, but we had previously vendored an ad-hoc selection of packages. Notably, x/crypto/hkdf was previously vendored in at a much newer commit than the rest of x/crypto. Bringing the rest of x/crypto up to that commit introduced an import of golang.org/x/sys/cpu, which broke the js/wasm build, requiring an upgrade of x/sys to pick up CL 165749. Packages in vendor/ directories have a "vendor/" path prefix in GOPATH mode, but intentionally do not in module mode. Since the import path is embedded in the compiled output, changing that path invalidates cache entries and causes cmd/go to try to rebuild (and reinstall) the vendored libraries, which will fail if the directory containing those libraries is read-only. 2016-03-02all: single space after period.Brad Fitzpatrick
The tree's pretty inconsistent about single space vs double space after a period in documentation. Make it consistently a single space, per earlier decisions. This means contributors won't be confused by misleading precedence. This CL doesn't use go/doc to parse. It only addresses // comments. It was generated with: $ perl -i -npe 's,^(\s*// .+[a-z]\.) +([A-Z]),$1 $2,' $(git grep -l -E '^\s*//(.+\.) +([A-Z])') $ go test go/doc -update Change-Id: Iccdb99c37c797ef1f804a94b22ba5ee4b500c4f7 Reviewed-on: https://go-review.googlesource.com/20022 Reviewed-by: Rob Pike <r@golang.org> Reviewed-by: Dave Day <djd@golang.org> Run-TryBot: Brad Fitzpatrick <bradfitz@golang.org> TryBot-Result: Gobot Gobot <gobot@golang.org>

local source The builtin name resolver using various resolution techniques is a bit complicated and we sometimes fotget to take care of all the go and cgo code paths and exchanging information to local and remote sources. This change makes LookupAddr return absolute domain names even in the case of local source. Updates #12189. Fixes #12240. 2015-07-28net: don't return DNS query results including the second best records ↵Mikio Hara
unconditionally This change prevents DNS query results using domain search list overtaking results not using the list unconditionally, which only happens when using builtin DNS stub resolver. The previous internal lookup function lookup is split into lookup and goLookupIPOrder for iteration over a set of names: FQDN or absolute FQDN, with domain label suffixes in search list, without domain label suffixes, and for concurrent A and AAAA record queries. Rename itod to uitoa to have consistent naming with other itoa functions. Reduce redundant code by calling uitoa from itoa. Reduce buffer to maximally needed size for conversion of 64bit integers. Adjust calls to itoa functions in package net to use new name for itod. Avoid calls to itoa if uitoa suffices.
