The error is stored internally in *bio.Writer, more specifically
in *bufio.Writer and the current code does not handle it, ignoring
errors silently.

This CL removes a lot of the redundant methods for accessing struct
fields and signature parameters. In particular, users never have to
write ".Slice()" or ".FieldSlice()" anymore; the exported APIs just do
what you want.
Further internal refactorings to follow.

This CL removes a bunch of obsolete code, which made the overall
possible data flow of the compiler much harder to understand. In
particular, it:
1. Removes typecheck.Declare by inlining its only two remaining uses,
and simplifying them down to just the couple of relevant assignments
for each remaining caller.
2. Renames ir.Package.{Asms,Exports} to {AsmHdrDecls,PluginExports},
respectively, to better describe what they're used for. In particular,
PluginExports now actually holds only the subset of Exports that used
to be confusingly called "ptabs" in package reflectdata.
3. Renames reflectdata.WriteTabs to reflectdata.WritePluginTable, to
make it clearer what it does.
4. Removes the consistency checks on len(Exports) and len(ptabs),
since now it's plainly obvious that only the unified importer ever
appends to PluginExports.

Currently, the compiler will emit any const that doesn't fit in an
int64 to go_asm.h like
#define const_stackPreempt constant.intVal{val:(*big.Int)(0xc000c06c40)}
This happens because dumpasmhdr formats the constant.Value using the
verb "%#v". Since constant.Value doesn't implement the GoString()
method, this just prints the Go-syntax representation of the value.
This happens to work for small integer constants, which go/constant
represents directly as an int64, but not for integer constants that
don't fit in an int64, which go/constant represents as a big.Int.
Make these constants usable by changing the formatting verb to "%v",
which will call the String() method, giving a reasonable result in all
cases.

This CL reorganizes export writing in preparation for unified IR:
1. It moves dumpexport into noder as noder.WriteExports so that it can
be extended to include unified IR's export data.
2. Adds an "extensions" flag to typecheck.WriteExports to control
whether the compiler-only extension data (e.g., function bodies and
linker symbol info) is included in the exports.
3. It moves the gc.exporter type into typecheck and renames it to
"crawler". The type originated as the implementation of
the (pre-iexport) binary exporter, but since the removal of bexport
it's been relegated to simply crawling the exported functions/bodies
graph to identify which inline bodies need to be included.
4. It changes inline.Inline_Flood into the method crawler.markInlBody.
Inline_Flood doesn't actually have anything to do with the rest of
inlining; its current name and location are just historical quirks.
Passes toolstash -cmp.

Change markType to scan generic types and methods, so that inlineable
functions inside generic functions/methods will be properly marked for
export, which means inlining inside instantiated functions will work
correctly.
Also, fix handling of closures for instantiated functions. Some code
needs to be adjusted, since instantiated functions/methods are compiled
as if in the package of the source generic function/type, rather than in
the local package. When we create the closure struct, we want to make
sure that the .F field has the same package as the other fields for the
closure variables. Also, we need to disable a check in tcCompLit() when
being done for an instantiated function, since fields of the closure
struct will be from the source package, not the local package.
Re-enabled part of the orderedmapsimp test that was disabled because of
these issues.

The general idea is that we now export/import typeparams, typeparam
lists for generic types and functions, and instantiated types
(instantiations of generic types with either new typeparams or concrete
types).
This changes the export format -- the next CL in the stack adds the
export versions and checks for it in the appropriate places.
We always export/import generic function bodies, using the same code
that we use for exporting/importing the bodies of inlineable functions.
To avoid complicated scoping, we consider all type params as unique and
give them unique names for types1. We therefore include the types2 ids
(subscripts) in the export format and re-create on import. We always
access the same unique types1 typeParam type for the same typeparam
name.
We create fully-instantiated generic types and functions in the original
source package. We do an extra NeedRuntimeType() call to make sure that
the correct DWARF information is written out. We call SetDupOK(true) for
the functions/methods to have the linker automatically drop duplicate
instantiations.
Other miscellaneous details:
- Export/import of typeparam bounds works for methods (but not
typelists) for now, but will change with the typeset changes.
- Added a new types.Instantiate function roughly analogous to the
types2.Instantiate function recently added.
- Always access methods info from the original/base generic type, since
the methods of an instantiated type are not filled in (in types2 or
types1).
- New field OrigSym in types.Type to keep track of base generic type
that instantiated type was based on. We use the generic type's symbol
(OrigSym) as the link, rather than a Type pointer, since we haven't
always created the base type yet when we want to set the link (during
types2 to types1 conversion).
- Added types2.AsTypeParam(), (*types2.TypeParam).SetId()
- New test minimp.dir, which tests use of generic function Min across
packages. Another test stringimp.dir, which also exports a generic
function Stringify across packages, where the type param has a bound
(Stringer) as well. New test pairimp.dir, which tests use of generic
type Pair (with no methods) across packages.
- New test valimp.dir, which tests use of generic type (with methods
and related functions) across packages.
- Modified several other tests (adder.go, settable.go, smallest.go,
stringable.go, struct.go, sum.go) to export their generic
functions/types to show that generic functions/types can be exported
successfully (but this doesn't test import).

types.Type instead
Confusingly, the set of all methods of an interface is currently set in
Fields field of types.Interface. This is true, even though there is
already an allMethods field (and AllMethods method) of types.Type.
Change so the set of all methods of an interface are stored in
Type.allMethods, and Interface.Fields is removed. Update the comments
for Methods and AllMethods.

A type may now have a type param in it, either because it has been
composed from a function type param, or it has been declared as or
derived from a reference to a generic type. No objects or types with
type params can be exported yet. No generic type has a runtime
descriptor (but will likely eventually be associated with a dictionary).
types.Type now has an RParam field, which for a Named type can specify
the type params (in order) that must be supplied to fully instantiate
the type. Also, there is a new flag HasTParam to indicate if there is
a type param (TTYPEPARAM) anywhere in the type.
An instantiated generic type (whether fully instantiated or
re-instantiated to new type params) is a defined type, even though there
was no explicit declaration. This allows us to handle recursive
instantiated types (and improves printing of types).
To avoid the need to transform later in the compiler, an instantiation
of a method of a generic type is immediately represented as a function
with the method as the first argument.
Added 5 tests on generic types to test/typeparams, including list.go,
which tests recursive generic types.

There are various global variables tracking the state of the
compilation. Collect them in a single global struct instead.
The struct definition is in package ir, but the struct itself is
still in package gc. It may eventually be threaded through the
code, but in the short term will end up in package typecheck.

An automated rewrite will add concrete type assertions after
a test of n.Op(), when n can be safely type-asserted
(meaning, n is not reassigned a different type, n is not reassigned
and then used outside the scope of the type assertion,
and so on).
This sequence of CLs handles the code that the automated
rewrite does not: adding specific types to function arguments,
adjusting code not to call n.Left() etc when n may have multiple
representations, and so on.
This CL handles all the little files that are left.

Move the printing of types.Type and types.Sym out of ir
into package types, where it properly belongs. This wasn't
done originally (when the code was in gc) because the Type
and Sym printing was a bit tangled up with the Node printing.
But now they are untangled and can move into the correct
package.
This CL is automatically generated.
A followup CL will clean up a little bit more by hand.

Similar to the previous CL, the only two users of NodeQueue only
needed it for tracking objects, not arbitrary AST nodes. So change
it's signature to use *Name instead of Node.
This does require a tweak to the nowritebarrierrec checker, because
previously it was pushing the ODCLFUNC *Func pointers into the queue,
whereas now we push the ONAME/PFUNC *Name pointers instead. However,
it's trivial and safe to flip between them.
Also, this changes a handful of export-related code from Node to
*Name, to avoid introducing type assertions within iexport.go.

Now that we have specific types for ONAME and ODCLFUNC nodes
(*Name and *Func), use them throughout the compiler to be more
precise about what data is being operated on.
This is a somewhat large CL, but once you start applying the types
in a few places, you end up needing to apply them to many other
places to keep everything type-checking. A lot of code also melts
away as types are added.
Passes buildall w/ toolstash -cmp.

The plan is to introduce a Node interface that replaces the old *Node pointer-to-struct.
The previous CL defined an interface INode modeling a *Node.
This CL:
- Changes all references outside internal/ir to use INode,
along with many references inside internal/ir as well.
- Renames Node to node.
- Renames INode to Node
So now ir.Node is an interface implemented by *ir.node, which is otherwise inaccessible,
and the code outside package ir is now (clearly) using only the interface.
The usual rule is never to redefine an existing name with a new meaning,
so that old code that hasn't been updated gets a "unknown name" error
instead of more mysterious errors or silent misbehavior. That rule would
caution against replacing Node-the-struct with Node-the-interface,
as in this CL, because code that says *Node would now be using a pointer
to an interface. But this CL is being landed at the same time as another that
moves Node from gc to ir. So the net effect is to replace *gc.Node with ir.Node,
which does follow the rule: any lingering references to gc.Node will be told
it's gone, not silently start using pointers to interfaces. So the rule is followed
by the CL sequence, just not this specific CL.
Overall, the loss of inlining caused by using interfaces cuts the compiler speed
by about 6%, a not insignificant amount. However, as we convert the representation
to concrete structs that are not the giant Node over the next weeks, that speed
should come back as more of the compiler starts operating directly on concrete types
and the memory taken up by the graph of Nodes drops due to the more precise
structs. Honestly, I was expecting worse.

The pointer hack was nice and saved a word, but it's untenable
in a world where nodes are themselves interfaces with different
underlying types. Bite the bullet and use an interface to hold the
Node when in types.Sym and types.Type.
This has the nice benefit of removing AsTypesNode entirely.
AsNode is still useful because of its nil handling.

If we want to break up package gc at all, we will need to move
the compiler IR it defines into a separate package that can be
imported by packages that gc itself imports. This CL does that.
It also removes the TINT8 etc aliases so that all code is clear

Move Flag, Debug, Ctxt, Exit, and error messages to
new package cmd/compile/internal/base.
These are the core functionality that everything in gc uses
and which otherwise prevent splitting any other code
out of gc into different packages.
A minor milestone: the compiler source code

The debug table is not as haphazard as flags, but there are still
a few mismatches between command-line names and variable names.
This CL moves them all into a consistent home (var Debug, like var Flag).

The flag values have grown fairly haphazard, with no organization
or even common naming convention. This CL moves all flag values
into the Flag struct (formerly misnamed Debug), except for a few
that live in Ctxt fields instead.
This CL is entirely automated changes.

with the new go/types-based type checker in the future.

This CL replaces gc.Ctype (along with its CTINT, etc. constants) with
constant.Kind; renames Val.Ctype to Val.Kind; and replaces a handful

gc debug flags are currently stored in a 256-long array, that is then
addressed using the ASCII numeric value of the flag itself (a quirk
inherited from the old C compiler). It is also a little wasteful,
since we only define 16 flags, and the other 240 array elements are
always empty.
This change makes Debug a struct, which also provides static checking
that we're not referencing flags that does not exist.

The -asmhdr flag is used to generate header files for assembly code
such that that code has access to compile-time constants. During
the build these constants end up in the (ephemeral) file go_asm.h.
For historical reasons, floating-point and complex constants are
printed with a 'p' exponent but with decimal mantissa; also, because
of the compiler-internal precision of 512 bits, the mantissae are quite
large (and conversions are comparatively slow).
With the changes to the new Go 2 number literals, the respective
upcoming changes to text/scanner (which in turn is used by the assembler)
will make text/scanner newly accept hexadecimal floats; but also decimal
floats using the incorrect 'p' exponent and report an error in that case.
As a consequence, the assembler will report an error when trying to parse
the before-mentioned decimal floating-point values which are using 'p'
exponents. Since these constants are never needed in the assembly code,
do not emit them in the first place.

In order to mark the obj.LSyms produced by the compiler with the
correct ABI, we need to know which types.Syms refer to function
symbols. This CL adds a flag to types.Syms to mark symbols for
functions, and sets this flag everywhere we create a PFUNC-class node,
and in the one place where we directly create function symbols without
always wrapping them in a PFUNC node (methodSym).
We'll use this information to construct obj.LSyms with correct ABI
information.

The new indexed package export format appears stable, and no reports
of needing to revert back to binary package export.
This CL disables the binary package export format by mechanically
replacing 'flagiexport' with 'true', and then superficial code
cleanups to keep the resulting code idiomatic. The resulting dead code
is removed in a followup CL.

Two funcs and a field were unused. Remove them.
A few statements could be made simpler.
importsym's pos parameter was unused, so remove it.

If expanding an inline function body required lazily expanding a
package-scoped type whose identifier was shadowed within the function
body, the lazy expansion would instead overwrite the local symbol
definition instead of the package-scoped symbol. This was due to
importsym using s.Def instead of s.PkgDef.
Unfortunately, this is yet another consequence of the current awkward
scope handling code.

This CL introduces a new indexed data format for package export
data. This improves on the previous (sequential) binary format by
allowing the compiler to selectively (and lazily) load only the data
that's actually needed for compilation.
In large Go projects, the package export data can become very large
due to transitive type declaration dependencies and inline
function/method bodies. By lazily loading these declarations and
bodies as needed, we avoid wasting time and memory processing
unnecessary and/or redundant data.
In the benchmarks below, "old" is -iexport=false and "new" is
-iexport=true. The suffixes indicate the compiler concurrency (-c) and
inlining (-l) settings used for the build (using -gcflags=all=-foo).
Benchmarks were run on an HP Z620.

Previously, constant pointer-typed expressions could use either Mpint
or NilVal as their Val depending on their construction, but const.go
expects each type to have a single corresponding Val kind.
This CL changes pointer-typed expressions to exclusively use Mpint.
Fixes #21221.
