| 2026-03-10 | diff: document -U without <n> as using default context | Tian Yuchen | |
| The documentation for '-U<n>' implies that the numeric value '<n>' is mandatory. However, the command line parser has historically accepted '-U' without a number. Strictly requiring a number for '-U' would break existing tests (e.g., in 't4013') and likely disrupt user scripts relying on this undocumented behavior. Hence we retain this fallback behavior for backward compatibility, but document it as such. Signed-off-by: Tian Yuchen <cat@malon.dev> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com> | |||
| 2025-07-29 | add-patch: add diff.context command line overrides | Leon Michalak | |
| This patch compliments the previous commit, where builtins that use add-patch infrastructure now respect diff.context and diff.interHunkContext file configurations. In particular, this patch helps users who don't want to set persistent context configurations or just want a way to override them on a one-time basis, by allowing the relevant builtins to accept corresponding command line options that override the file configurations. This mimics commands such as diff and log, which allow for both context file configuration and command line overrides.
