hash-ll.h: split out of hash.h to remove dependency on repository.h

hash.h depends upon and includes repository.h, due to the definition and use of the_hash_algo (defined as the_repository->hash_algo). However, most headers trying to include hash.h are only interested in the layout of the structs like object_id. Move the parts of hash.h that do not depend upon repository.h into a new file hash-ll.h (the "low level" parts of hash.h), and adjust other files to use this new header where the convenience inline functions aren't needed. This allows hash.h and object.h to be fairly small, minimal headers. It also exposes a lot of hidden dependencies on both path.h (which was brought in by repository.h) and repository.h (which was previously implicitly brought in by object.h), so also adjust other files to be more explicit about what they depend upon. Dozens of files made use of gettext functions, without explicitly including gettext.h. This made it more difficult to find which files could remove a dependence on cache.h. Make C files explicitly include gettext.h if they are using it. However, while compat/fsmonitor/fsm-ipc-darwin.c should also gain an include of gettext.h, it was left out to avoid conflicting with an in-flight topic. mark unused parameters in trivial compat functions

When a platform feature isn't available or in use, we sometimes conditionally compile empty or trivial functions to turn these into noops. We need to annotate their parameters so that -Wunused-parameters won't complain about them. Note that there are many more of these in compat/mingw.h, but we'll leave them for now, as there's some trickery required to get the UNUSED macro available there. strvec: rename struct fields

The "argc" and "argv" names made sense when the struct was argv_array, but now they're just confusing. Let's rename them to "nr" (which we use for counts elsewhere) and "v" (which is rather terse, but reads well when combined with typical variable names like "args.v"). Note that we have to update all of the callers immediately. Playing tricks with the preprocessor is hard here, because we wouldn't want to rewrite unrelated tokens. strvec: convert more callers away from argv_array name

We eventually want to drop the argv_array name and just use strvec consistently. There's no particular reason we have to do it all at once, or care about interactions between converted and unconverted bits. Because of our preprocessor compat layer, the names are interchangeable to the compiler (so even a definition and declaration using different names is OK). This patch converts remaining files from the first half of the alphabet, to keep the diff to a manageable size. The conversion was done purely mechanically with: git ls-files '*.c' '*.h' | xargs perl -i -pe ' s/ARGV_ARRAY/STRVEC/g; s/argv_array/strvec/g; ' and then selectively staging files with "git add '[abcdefghjkl]*'". trace2: create new combined trace facility

Create a new unified tracing facility for git. The eventual intent is to replace the current trace_printf* and trace_performance* routines with a unified set of git_trace2* routines. In addition to the usual printf-style API, trace2 provides higer-level event verbs with fixed-fields allowing structured data to be written. This makes post-processing and analysis easier for external tools. Trace2 defines 3 output targets. These are set using the environment variables "GIT_TR2", "GIT_TR2_PERF", and "GIT_TR2_EVENT". These may be set to "1" or to an absolute pathname (just like the current GIT_TRACE). * GIT_TR2 is intended to be a replacement for GIT_TRACE and logs command summary data. * GIT_TR2_PERF is intended as a replacement for GIT_TRACE_PERFORMANCE. It extends the output with columns for the command process, thread, repo, absolute and relative elapsed times. It reports events for child process start/stop, thread start/stop, and per-thread function nesting. * GIT_TR2_EVENT is a new structured format. It writes event data as a series of JSON records. Calls to trace2 functions log to any of the 3 output targets enabled without the need to call different trace_printf* or trace_performance* routines.
